Charles Kennedy MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats joined a host of distinguished guests at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Temple on 19th February 2005 where the main purpose of the gathering was to present funds collected through the BAPS TSUNAMI APPEAL to the eight Ambassadors of countries that were affected by the Tsunami.

The Archbishop Of Canterbury visits BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury visited The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neasden, the largest traditional Hindu Mandir outside India, on Sat 29 Jan 2005. Dr Williams arrived at the Mandir at 6.30pm where he was welcomed by the Trustees of the Mandir, Sarah Teather MP for Brent East, H.E. Kamlesh Sharma – The High Commissioner of India, The Mayor of Brent – Cllr. Ahmed Shahzad and Cllr. Ann John – Leader of Brent Council.

SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS

Representatives from all the nations directly affected by the South East Asia tsunami came together on Sunday 2 January 2005, for the first time since the tragedy, for a service of special prayers at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neasden. The representatives joined more than 3000 people in a show of solidarity with the citizens of the countries devastated by the tsunami.

Swaminarayan Jayanti and Ramnavmi Celebrations

On Tuesday 29 March 2004, the auspicious festival of Swaminarayan Jayanti and Ramnavmi was celebrated in a majestic way at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neasden. A magnificent Annakut was offered to the sacred images of Ghanshyam Maharaj and Ram Sita. At 12 noon, the birth arti of Ram Sita was performed by the sadhus.

Maha Shivratri Festival

On Wednesday 18 February 2004, the auspicious festival of ‘Maha-shivratri’ was celebrated in a grand way at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden. Over 60 ‘falahar’ items were offered to the sacred images of Shiv and Parvati.

Divine Annakut offered in the Houses of Parliament

For the first time ever, Annakut was offered in the British Parliament. This was history and the Hindu community was overjoyed by the celebrations steeped with devotion. Volunteers of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha worked hard to set up the Annakut and along with other volunteers, they contributed to make the whole celebration a grand success.

Grand New Year’s Celebrations

From as early as 5 a.m., devotees were coming in to the mandir complex for their first darshan of Thãkorji on the Hindu New Year [Vikram Samvat 2060]. The day started at 5.30 a.m. with mangalã arti in the mandir. The murtis were then beautifully adorned and shangãr arti was performed at 6.45 a.m. At 7.00 a.m., the New Year mahãpujã commenced in the Haveli, where prayers for world peace were chanted.

Mayor of London Organises Diwali in Trafalgar Square

On Sunday 19 October, for the third year running, Diwali celebrations were held at Trafalgar Square, in the heart of central London. The event was open to all nationalities, races and religions, to come and enjoy the sights, tastes and spectacles. It was organised by Ken Livingstone, The Mayor of London, who was represented by Deputy Mayor Ms. Jenny Jones who paid tribute to London’s multi cultural society and re-emphasised the value of ” the light of Diwali removing the darkness of ignorance”.

Maha Shivratri Festival

Saturday 1st March 2003 marked the celebration of ‘Maha-Shivratri’ at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden. The day began with the sacred installation of Shiva-Lingas beneath the Mandir dome amidst chanting of Shiva Mahima Stotram by the pious pundits of the Mandir.

Annakut Celebration
Tuesday 5 November 2002

The Diwali and New Year festivities were enthusiastically celebrated at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neasden, London. On Diwali day almost 1,000 people participated in the Chopda pujan ceremony, where old books of account are closed and the new books were blessed. The entire local community also enjoyed the spectacular fireworks display watching from the safety of the Gibbons Ground, which unfortunately may not be available next year following a sequence of decisions taken by Brent Council.

Annakut Celebration, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

Continuing the annual tradition, a mammoth Annakut display was set up at Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasdon, London. The display was arranged on 8 steps spanning and 120 feet in length and 30 feet in depth.
